Driverless in Dubai: WeRide's robotaxis go fully commercial

Since the end of March 2026, fully driverless WeRide robotaxis carry paying passengers in Jumeirah and Umm Suqeim.

Dubai's autonomous-mobility plans reached a commercial milestone in 2026. After receiving a driverless vehicle permit in February, WeRide launched fully driverless commercial robotaxi operations on 31 March 2026, running routes in Jumeirah and Umm Suqeim with vehicles supplied through Jameel Motors.

What changed

Earlier autonomous trials in the UAE kept a safety driver behind the wheel. This deployment removes that seat for commercial rides on approved routes — a shift from testing to a paid, public service operating under RTA oversight.
