Syria completes its first VoLTE call
On 21 April 2026, the Ministry of Communications made the country's first Voice over LTE call — a step in modernizing the mobile network.
Syria's Ministry of Communications and Information Technology completed the country's first voice call using Voice over LTE (VoLTE) technology on 21 April 2026 — a milestone in the effort to modernize the nation's mobile infrastructure.
What VoLTE changes
VoLTE carries voice calls over the 4G data network instead of older circuit-switched systems, enabling faster call setup, clearer audio, and simultaneous voice and data. For users it means better calls; for operators it is a prerequisite step toward fully modern networks and, eventually, 5G.
The milestone arrives alongside a wider reconstruction of Syrian telecoms, including the stc-led Silklink fibre project and new mobile-network licensing.
