BarqNet: Syria's nationwide broadband push

The BarqNet initiative targets 85% fibre-to-the-home coverage by 2027 — a backbone for the country's digital revival.

Syria's digital recovery is anchored by two large infrastructure efforts: the $800 million, stc-led Silklink fibre-optic project, and BarqNet, a nationwide broadband initiative that aims for 85% fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) coverage by 2027.

Why fibre, why now

Reliable, fast home and business connectivity is the precondition for everything downstream — cloud software, digital payments, remote work and online services. Fibre coverage at national scale is what lets local startups assume their users can actually load an app, stream a call, or complete a checkout.

Together with returning global vendors and easing sanctions, the broadband build-out is reconnecting Syria to the digital economy from the ground up.
