What it is, and why we use it.

GitHub is the world's largest code-hosting and developer-collaboration platform: Git repositories, pull-request review, Actions for CI/CD, Packages, security scanning, and project planning in one place. For most software teams it isn't just where the code sits — it's the operating system of the whole engineering workflow, from first commit to production deploy.

Every Innoveev repository — client and internal — lives on GitHub: branch-protected main, required reviews, Actions running tests and builds on every PR, and environments gating deploys. It's also our hiring lens and open-source home. Worth noting for our region: GitHub restored full access across Syria in September 2025, which reconnected an entire generation of engineers to the platform their careers run on.

Key differences

GitHub vs GitLab vs Bitbucket.

The three Git platforms teams actually choose between — where each one wins, and why we standardise on the first.

GitHub wins when

  • You want the deepest integration ecosystem and Actions marketplace
  • Open-source presence and hiring signal matter
  • Copilot in the same platform as your code is a plus

GitLab wins when

  • You want one app for the entire DevOps lifecycle
  • Self-managed, sovereign hosting is a hard requirement
  • Built-in CI/CD without third-party glue is the priority

Bitbucket wins when

  • Your team already lives in Jira and Confluence
  • Atlassian is the mandated toolchain
  • Tight issue-to-branch traceability is the goal
Our take

GitHub is the ground every project stands on for us — not because it's fashionable, but because the workflow, the ecosystem and the talent all already live there. When a client needs sovereign hosting, we'll reach for self-managed GitLab; otherwise this is the default we don't argue about.
