The store that matters when Google doesn't ship — the default on Huawei devices, big in China and pockets of MENA.
AppGallery is Huawei's app store, the pre-installed default on Huawei phones. Since Huawei lost access to Google Mobile Services in 2019, its devices rely on Huawei Mobile Services (HMS) instead — so apps targeting them swap Google APIs (maps, push, auth) for HMS equivalents. It has real reach in China and a meaningful Huawei user base across the Middle East.
When a client's audience includes Huawei users, we port to HMS Core — replacing Google Maps, FCM push and sign-in with Huawei's equivalents — and publish to AppGallery alongside the main stores. It's niche, but for the right market it's the only way in.
The Huawei store against the two mainstream ones — when it's essential, and when it's optional.
| Dimension | Huawei AppGallery | Google Play | App Store |
|---|---|---|---|
| Devices | Huawei only | All Android (incl. older Huawei) | iOS only |
| Services | HMS Core (no Google APIs) | Google Mobile Services | Apple frameworks |
| Reach | China + Huawei base worldwide | Largest globally | Premium iOS users |
| Porting effort | Swap Google APIs for HMS | Native Android | Native iOS |
| When required | Huawei / China audience | Almost always | Almost always |
We treat AppGallery as a targeted add-on, not a default: worth the HMS port only when a client's audience genuinely includes Huawei users. When it does, it's the only door — so we build for it properly.
